The
Middletown
Fire Police
was
organized in
1896 for the
purpose of
maintaining
fire lines
and keeping
order at
fire scenes.
Early titles
included
Private and
Roundsman.
Fire Police
were not to
let anyone
through the
fire lines
unless he
could
produce a
fireman's
badge.
They also
controlled
entrance to
a building
on fire as
well as
guarding the
premises
after the
fire was
out. They
were also
designated
as Special
Police.
